Jointhepipe.org is a non-profit organisation which aims to ensure fair distribution of drinking water worldwide, as well as to discourage the usage of bottled water.

At Aquatech, a trade show for water technology in Amsterdam, Jointhepipe.org and Vitens signed a Memorandum of Intent  to prioritise the provision of safe water worldwide. Having already worked together several times, the two organisations plan to continue their hard work in encouraging the people to drink tap water by installing public water taps.

Jointhepipe.org has produced a public tap water station, which Vitens is responsible for installing. Thus far, six of the eight public tap water stations produced have been installed by Vitens in Urtrecht, Netherlands. Along with Urgenda, an independent organisation in the Netherlands which promotes sustainable living, a national campaign was launched – “I jump over – to tap water”.

Jointhepipe.org has requested that the tap water stations be installed nationwide, in many public areas such as parks, museums, and public transport stops, and Vitens provides the installation free of charge.

With the tap water stations come durable BPA-free water bottles, shaped like parts of water pipelines, which are intended to make the tap water stations easier to use on-the-go.

From the proceeds of Jointhepipe.org products, funding is put towards maintaining water and sanitation projects such as water wells and water pumps in developing countries across Africa and Asia. Jointhepipe.org keeps the progress of these projects updated on the website for donors to follow.

Drinking water fountains is now a distributor for the Tomlinson products. These products include the Pro-flo range of Bubbler valves and cartridges in addition to a huge range of glass\bottle filling taps. Bubbler valves generally contain a cartridge that periodically fail causing the button to leak. Many people think that all bubbler cartridges are the same. This is not the case. Conceived by the Royal Parks Foundation and Tiffany & Co. Foundation, in partnership with The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), the challenge is to create a well-designed drinking fountain to replace older Parks’ fountains which cannot be restored. The winning designer will see their work turned into reality in the Parks, with the hope that the design will eventually be adopted in other green spaces around the world.
The number of functioning drinking fountains in the UK is at an all time low. A recent survey* revealed that only 11% of green spaces provide working water fountains.

Requiring 2000 times more energy to produce bottled water than tap water**, drinking fountains are a practical and environmentally friendly way to refresh visitors and minimise waste. Tiffany – Across the Water will see The Royal Parks’ drinking fountains undergo much-needed restoration after years of hard use, since they were installed in Victorian and Edwardian times.

A significant part of Tiffany – Across the Water will also be to create a stunning ‘Tiffany & Co. Foundation Fountain’ which will take centre stage in St James’s Park lake. The twenty-foot plume will leap against the magnificent backdrop of Buckingham Palace and Whitehall and Horse Guards Parade. The aeration provided by the fountain will benefit the many species of wildlife dependent on the fresh waters of the lake.

The historic Italian Gardens in Kensington Gardens, dating back to the 1860s, are a popular spot for tourists and Londoners alike and will undergo major restoration work, including five small fountains and the monumental Tazza Fountain. The stonework, flint walls, benches and formal promenade will also be restored to their former glory. In addition, a new eco-friendly water system will be installed to benefit the Long Water and encourage wildlife to flourish.

We recently helped a client who was in need of all the parts for a drinking water fountain so that they could have a stonemason craft their own casing for the parts, making a unique fountain.

The Perranporth Golf Club came to us after one of the clubs long standing members had sadly passed away.  After having spent so much time at the club the family wanted to donate something special to the club in his memory.  They agreed on having a custom made fountain installed in the grounds of the club, and to have the fountain made by a local monumental mason.  The results are impressive, not only does the fountain look fantastic but as you can see in the photo the placing of the fountain gives a fantastic view of the course and the surrounding landscape.  The work was done by local monumental mason R Pascoe & Sons, click on the link to view some of their other works.

This is a great example of how drinking water fountains can be used and designed in a way which goes further than simply providing water for it’s users, and can be a touching monument.

Back in the day, outdoor drinking fountains were everywhere, they were vital for the wellbeing of the public and were often the only way to quench the thirst of the villages. They were often a very simple design, nothing too crazy, just a concrete slab with a hole for the water to come out of.
