Thank God for drinking fountains in department stores! You may have not noticed them, but there will come the day when you will be so

thirsty from walking around the shelves, the racks, your eyes are even going to be dried out from all the colours, fabrics, shoes and so many others things. You will crave a drink, but there will be no vending machine in sight. And all of a sudden, you will spot it – the water fountain! What a relief – you will go there press the button and have some chilled delicious water! What is the first thing on your mind now? It probably is – this department store really cares for its customers! Yes, you can spend there all day, without spending money for drinks. The water fountains are also a bliss for all of those who shop with their children. This is something that comes as so much help for those who bring their children along shopping, that often times they make it as the place where kids will go in case they lose their parents in the store. Just imagine – small children get thirsty, they run around, they get messy, they drop their bottles, they drop theirs pacifiers and what is the parent to do? Just go to the fountain – have everything washed, fill up the water bottle and keep on shopping. Wash their hands even. Sometimes people do not appreciate things they have, but when the time comes, you will be grateful for those great drinking fountains in your department store.

How long has it been, since you felt the joy of having water from a drinking fountain when you are thirsty? You cannot even begin to describe the feeling whenever you find a water fountain in the park or in the hallway of a hospital or a concert hall especially when you are thirsty and there is no vending machine around. Remember how the parks were much more cleaner and the site of an empty water bottle on the ground was scarce? This is the reason some city halls started encouraging people to drink water from the water fountains instead of buying and throwing away tons of plastic. The city halls believe that it will be much better if people bring reusable water containers and fill them up with water from the fountains. This will preserve the environment, and actually boost people’s health, because even if you did not purchase water from the store, you will have free water from the fountain. In addition, since the water fountains will filter the water it won’t be any different from the one in the bottle. Do not forget to educate your children how to drink from a water fountain – they will really enjoy it!

If you want to install a drinking fountain in your backyard or in your vacation home, please do so. It is easy to use, fresh, clean, and very fun. You will never have to worry about being thirsty again. Call us!

We particularly love making a noise about our health, more so if it concerns our children and other young people across the country. Since the release of the shocking report that drinking water fountains in public parks are falling into disrepair, and have been for some time, there has been a lot going on…

The writers at My Real England, a blog site created in celebration of everything from/about our glorious country, have joined forces with the Join the Refill campaign, to help get better drinking units in public places, so that we can have access to clean drinking water when we need it- a basic human right, many would argue. The two forces combined promote events and petitions, trying to persuade our government to follow the example of others and build thousands of drinking water fountains, all over the country, for public convenience. In one very special town, Carmel, California, even pooches are truly pampered, with their very own doggy-shaped fountain in the town centre.

So if you’re passionate about giving your family clean, delicious water on tap (hoho), please get in touch and one of our team will be on hand to talk you through our products and service, and find out how we can help you most efficiently. We look forward to hearing from you!

Across the country, it has been reported that drinking water fountains have fallen into disrepair as a result of neglect from local authorities. During the study, carried out by he Children’s Food Campaign, who work to improve the health of young people, it was found that only 11% of the green spaces across the UK have drinking water fountains, and of these, generally only 2/3 of the units were dispensing.

The main concern of the charity was that children would be pushed to consume fizzy and sugary drinks in an attempt to quench their thirst, instead of picking a healthier, complimentary option. With so much emphasis on fighting child obesity, and cutting down on heart disease in the future, how are the Powers That Be helping?

What are your views on this? Does your local park provide fountains for your children to drink from, or are you persuaded to let them indulge in unhealthier options? Maybe you’re a local councillor, fighting for the renovation of these units, and are struggling to get support. Whatever your position, we’d love to hear from you.

If you’d like any information about getting one of your own drinking water fountains, please do get in touch and one of our team will happy to answer your questions.

The Water Babies, written by Charles Kingsley, began as a series of short stories for Macmillan’s Magazine, the popularity of which encouraged Kingsley to publish the full-length novel in 1863. The story follows a young chimney sweep called Tom, who falls into a river, tragically dies, but magically turns into a water baby, and begins a journey of moral discovery, during which he meets various characters such as the infamous fairy, Ms. Doasyoouwouldbedoneby. Tom learns that by doing things which he may not like, being only very young, but are the right thing to do, he will be able to return to land and live the rest of his life as he did before.

Of course, we don’t want to spoil the story for those who don’t know the whole thing, so we’ll leave our synopsis at that. If you’ve enjoyed The Water Babies, or have any other watery fairy tales that you’re particularly keen on and would like to spread their fame, please get in touch or leave a message at the bottom of our blog.

We all love a good fairy tale, with princes and princesses, possibly the odd slaying of an evil dragon, or even a shape-shifting elf. We at drinking water fountains particularly enjoy those stories which revolve around that wonderful, life-giving substance that spurts from our fountains- lovely jubbly water.

This week we’re bringing you a Grimm Fairy Tale, The Water of Life. Known for their somewhat dark moral tales, the Brothers Grimm tell of a King, far, far away, who was near death and desperate need of treatment. His three sons, the princes, each decided in turn to set out and find the much celebrated “Water of Life”, which would cure the king instantly. Facing dangerous paths and evil elves, only the youngest of the three brothers made it to the enchanted castle, within which the well, containing the water of life, resided. But the other princes, greedy for praise and the possibility of inheriting the kingdom, stole the water from the younger prince, and took the credit for healing the king. The youngest prince was exiled from the castle….

However, we also feel that water can be a lot of fun, particularly when used as part of a celebration, which is why we new fans of Thai New Year, or Songkran as the holiday is known to the locals during which gallons of water are thrown, squirted and poured throughout the five day festival. Falling in the middle of April, although the dates vary from year to year depending on the lunar calendar, Thai locals gather in huge crowds to partake in the water fight; if you’re thinking that you’ll be able to avoid it if you find yourself in Thailand, think again. Not only are you guaranteed to get soaked, which provides much-needed relief from the spring heat, but also covered in clay, as people shout well-wishings at you from afar.
If you have any questions about our products, or would like to share any stories or pictures you have from a time you may have experience Songkran, or indeed any other water-related festival, please do get in touch. We always love to hear your stories!

Last week we saw a surge of enquiries from primary schools – strangely though, this was not related to the fine weather that has heralded the start of summer. Both enquiries were related to the water is cool in school initiative which has received wide spread praise from Uk Ofsted inspectors. We thought it may be interesting to lay out in detail some of the needs and considerations that these enquiries brought to light.

The first was from a school in Lincoln who are looking to be able to provide drinking water for all children in each classroom. The Victorian primary school was looking to replace aged sinks in each classroom with a simple wall mounted fountain sink. This simple unit has very small dimensions and simply has a bubbler for children to drink from.

With wall mounted sinks the drinking water comes straight from the mains supply, is passed through a water filter if required and comes out of the bubbler when a simple button us depressed. The basic form of wall mounted sink has no chilling unit and therefore the water comes out of the bubbler at mains water temperature.

The second enquiry was for an outdoor freestanding water fountain for the centre of a childrens playground. This area of a primary school was being redeveloped and the contractor in charge of works was able to make provision for mains-fed water and waste to be taken to a central area under the main asphalt area.

There are a number of fountains built in the UK that are suited to high usage external environments. We were able to source three specific fountains that fitted the remit including one that has been specifically developed for a primary school where the drinking area is at 800mm rather than the more standard 1 metre suited to adults.

We were able to provide the contractor with detailed installation information in advance of the construction detail being completed within a one hour framework.
