Drinking Water Fountains on Easter Day

This weekend was Easter and many people enjoyed the drinking water fountains in parks, where they threw big parties. Easter is one of the occasions during the year when families and friends get together and celebrate. Many people chose to organize the get together in a park. This truly is a great idea, because spring is here and being outdoors can be quite pleasant. People with kids especially enjoyed their time, because the kids were running freely, playing in playgrounds and having great fun. However, being outdoors with kids means that things are going to get messy at one point and kids will be thirsty after playing all day. This means that parents must bring a lot of water. But, luckily for some, there were water fountains in some parks. This was an amazing advantage, because kids drop their spoons, their toys in the mud, their hands get dirty. And the fountains really served a good purpose – they kept everybody clean and at the same time, they kept everybody hydrated. After the party the parks were left clean, because there weren’t any plastic water bottles and tissues scattered around them. This was all because of the water fountains.

Everyone benefited from these devices. Parents were grateful and kids had a great time splashing with water and taking turns to drink from the fountains. At the end of the day everyone was happy. Drinking Water Fountains and Find a Rainbow Day

On the 3^rd of April, many people have decided to use the Drinking Water Fountains in a fun game during the Find a Rainbow Day.

Families gathered in parks and played with their kids a lot of fun games, all in the search of rainbows. There were activities like drawing pictures of rainbows, painting with their hands, drawing rainbows on mugs, drawing them with crayons on the asphalt. They sang songs about rainbows and had a great time. But a few of the games were in fact called find-the-rainbow and kids gathered around the water fountains and tried to see the little rainbows that form there whenever the sun hits the running water. This was a spectacular activity indeed and a few lucky ones saw rainbows in the sky that day.

The water fountains though were among the most crowded places in the park and for a good reason. Kids not only used them for their rainbow search, but also had great, fresh water all day long. Parents were delighted that their young ones had enough water to drink, after being exhausted from playing. Water fountains turned out to be great and people really appreciated them. They really make a difference especially if there aren’t any vending machines offering water nearby.

US Students Rally for more Water Fountains

A Brock University programming co-ordinator is doing all that she can to get more water fountains installed, or at least have some hydration stations on campus so students can fill up their water bottles instead of having to shell out $2.50 per bottle from the vending machine, or buy the alternative of sugary soft drinks to quench their thirsts.

Milica Njegovan discovering the noticeable absence of any water fountains in the plans for three new buildings underway at the University and after completing a sustainability study on campus where she started counting water fountains as she examined the importance of water only to find there were none.

“Unless there’s a staff demand for them or there’s student demand for them, (facilities management) doesn’t even think about it,” Njegovan said.

Njegovan said that people used to see water fountains as unclean but now fountains are maintained regularly and people are trying to cut back on the amount of bottled water they buy for environmental and cost reasons so water fountains are the only way people can refill their stainless steel water bottles and keep their personal costs down.

“It’s obviously really concerning. Slowly students are having no choice and access to water,” Njegovan said.
